Pregnancy photoshoot underwater experience

Being pregnant I can only imagine is hard enough. Try having a photographer to convince you, whilst you’re heavily pregnant, to go underwater, butt naked and try to look graceful. Well Joanna did just that. My fertility feminist goddess.

If you’re offended by the naked female form please go somewhere else for the duration of this blog post.

So I finally got to use my Canon R with my new housing by Aquatech. It was a lot easier to use than my old Ikelite that’s for sure, the trigger grip to take photos with was an absolute blessing. I loved it, honestly though I struggled with the Canon R’s noise handling whilst editing; something I will have to think about for the future.

Though, let’s face it. I love the above shot. I think Joanna looks absolutely incredible. Some notes from her though, someone who is VERY comfortable underwater.

  • You are way more buoyant when you’re pregnant. (This is true, it’s so much harder to go under, as if you’re a witch all of a sudden…)

  • Your pregnancy brain tells you not to do any of the above. You have to fight your instincts SO HARD.

  • Being naked makes things so much better. Having clothes on feels restricting and you’re covering your bump a lot more. Naked is easier and better - and look at her! Glorious.

Notes from myself as the photographer:

  • Boobs have minds of their own underwater.

This is all, my comedy ends here.

Honestly though, I’ve wanted to do so many more pregnancy underwater photoshoots and never really get asked to do them! It boggles my mind as it’s so goddamn beautiful! I remember my first one with my wonderful friend Hollie and they are some of my favourite images still to this date.

So pregnant ladies out there. What would make you WANT to do an underwater photoshoot? What questions do you have? Fears? Anxieties? Tell me, ask me.
