Cannes Fortnight - Joanna Hogg and Clio Barnard

In a very male dominated industry we women are rocking the boats for sure and I can’t help but absolutely BEAM with pride at working alongside not just one but TWO FEMALE directors who are now part of Cannes Fortnight 2021.

I actually got to work alongside Joanna Hogg on The Souvenir Part Two on my first ever job as a unit stills photographer. The Souvenir Part Two is being premiered at Cannes.

Now I’m currently working with the beautiful Clio Barnard on The Essex Serpent. Not the film she is having premiered (Ali & Ava) but I’m still absolutely thrilled to be working alongside her now.

In an industry which scared the crap out of me with a horrific experience early on I’ve found safety among the women in the industry who are fiercely protective of one another, understanding and all around are cheering other women on which warms my soul. Women who hear my story and share theirs with me, who are slowly but surely speaking out and making sure every experience is heard from the rooftops.

Anyway, I digress.

The Souvenir Part Two is going to be an incredible watch and is ‘perhaps the biggest draw for audiences’ after The Souvenir was the most critically acclaimed films at Sundance 2019. I’m so honoured to have been one of the unit stills photographers on it. I’m still SO excited to share my images from this incredible film but it looks like I’ll be waiting a little while yet. Bloody covid put an extra year on that wait!

I was lucky enough that this photo was the first image release in Empire Magazine in 2019
