How do you see your life as a photographer after lock-down?

Of course, I think everyone is probably thinking similarly. The ups and downs of COVID-19 pandemic, lock-down, isolation, hell everything that’s happened has changed us all.

But as a photographer how has it changed you for the long term? Has anything changed dramatically? Has this time clarified where you want to be?

For me, it completely confirmed that I want to continue doing unit stills photography but instead of ‘giving up’ on book cover photography it’s actually made me realise how important it is to keep it ticking over as it is my passive income, if I can always increase that somehow then it’s always worth doing.

Annoyingly I’ve realised I really don’t like spending long hours in front of my computer. I’m a restless fidget bum who would love to just be outside in the woods, fresh air and all that so I’m still struggling to find a balance. The more time I’m outside the less I want to be in front of a screen. Which isn’t a good thing when you’re a photographer! I’ll find a balance eventually I’m sure.

It’s been more interesting living with an Editor/Film maker he’s been busy filming me, creating short stories from spontaneous trips out and we even got together and shot some stuff for a brand I love (Sondeflor). Watching him create these beautiful pieces, edit them, pull it all together with music and voice overs, man, it got my creative motor going that’s for sure. I started dabbling with two ideas I’ve had for a little while. One of which I’ve taken a step and written the entire thing, hoping to direct and film it later in the year if I’m able (It’s big in comparison to my second idea). Second idea is actually happening already and I have a voice over recording in motion before filming starts. Both wildly different from one another. For years, and years and in a meeting in London with a big agency people have mentioned about myself directing and I’ve fluffed them all away because I wasn’t even sure what a director did until recently. I had a vague sense of the job but not how it worked exactly. This down time has certainly given me space to think about directing more. Ya know guys, I kinda love it.

But for now when things are still in lock-down I’ll enjoy my time outdoors with my partner, finding some respite in this crazy pandemic.
